Hon Adviser Mr YEUNG Tak-keung's video message to QC160 Student Learning Celebration

2022.08.05

Following is the video message by the Honorary Adviser of Queen's College Old Boys' Association and Commissioner for Sports of the Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau, Mr YEUNG Tak-keung, to Queen's College 160th Anniversary (QC160) Student Learning Celebration this morning (August 5):

Principal, boys of Queen's College, ladies and gentlemen,

It is great to meet you virtually at this special event, which will showcase the winning entries of the anniversary competitions as well as your collective hard work to honour our alma mater.

Unfortunately, the QC Open Day is cancelled again due to the pandemic. Open Day has always been one of the highlight events in the school calendar. I still remember the projects that I had participated in some 40 years ago, such as the scout pioneering projects building aerial runways and bridges across the whole school lawn. Through these projects, we learnt how to put ideas into practice and how to plan and organise our work. We also learnt from success and failure, and from our seniors and classmates. More importantly, we learnt how to work together as a team. In the process, we fostered our friendship and brotherhood, which have lasted for many decades and are still growing.

Following the cancellation of the Open Day, the school has made quick adjustment to organise today's event to provide a special platform for you to show to the QC family what you learn, what you dream and what you want to make QC better. I can't wait to see the projects, performances and innovative products created by different classes and students. Your presentations may differ, but our passion for QC always draws us together.

QC boys always strive to pursue excellence in whatever they do. I am delighted to know that the Class of 2022 has achieved remarkable results in the DSE (Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination). Well done, graduates. You should be proud of your hard work in three unsettling years, and thankful to the support from your teachers, families and friends.

Further, I am pleased to note the remark by our top scorer, Ho-pong (MAK Ho-pong), who expressed the wish to serve the community, or in his words "想服侍香港這個社區". I hope all our graduates will continue to develop your interest and passion, equip yourselves to pursue your dreams, and always do your best in whatever pathways you take.

Graduation may mean departure. Yet, "you can take a man out of QC, but not QC out of a man". Our fellow young men, no matter where and what you will be doing, you will carry the QC DNA, i.e. hard work, service and brotherhood.

Last but not least, don't forget to find time to participate in sports and do regular exercises. With a strong mind and body, I'm sure you will succeed in your future endeavours and contribute to our society. Congratulations again and I wish you all a happy summer.
